The physicians at Texas Fertility Center (TFC)
provide comprehensive fertility services for our
patients. These services include reconstructive
surgical procedures, ovulation induction, controlled
ovarian superovulation with intrauterine
insemination (IUI), and In Vitro Fertilization
(IVF). TFC works closely with Austin IVF, a full
service andrology and embryology laboratory. In
addition to providing all of the necessary complex
laboratory procedures for in vitro fertilization,
Austin IVF provides detailed evaluation of sperm and
anti-sperm antibody testing, as well as the
preparation of sperm for IUI.
Our IVF program has a long and distinguished history
of assisting patients in achieving their goal of
pregnancy and the birth of a child. In 1983, St.
David’s Hospital opened one of the first IVF
programs in the country. The first oocyte retrieval
in Austin was performed at the St. David’s program
in 1984. Although services were initially limited to
IVF and gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), the
program expanded to include cryopreservation
(freezing) of embryos in 1989.
In the beginning, the program was quite small,
but it grew steadily over its first 10 years. The
growth over the last 10 - 15 years has been even
more significant, as the number of cycles that we
perform has grown from approximately 100 cycles each
year to greater than 600 cycles in 2008. In 2004,
the IVF laboratory was purchased by Texas Fertility
Center physicians in order to facilitate its
continued growth. This change in ownership allowed
the program to begin offering donor oocytes, donor
sperm, gestational carriers and oocyte
cryopreservation to our patients. In order to
provide these services, we had to purchase new
equipment, add several more embryologists and
support personnel, and find more laboratory space.
Consequently, Austin IVF moved to its current
location on north Mopac in the Fall of 2006.
St. David’s hospital has played an important role
in the delivery of specialized fertility services to
central Texans over the last 25 years. Consequently,
we asked St. David’s to continue our partnership by
building a surgical facility next to our new state
of the art Austin IVF laboratory on Mopac. The
partnership between TFC, Austin IVF and St. David’s
Surgical Fertility Center enables us to continue to
provide nationally recognized services to our
patients at our new location. The clinical and
administrative staffs of these entities, along with
the physicians, are committed to making your
experience successful and pleasant.
