Texas Fertility Center Helps Create a Buzz about Birds and Bees

Public Awareness Campaign Coincides with TFC’s New Radio Program

Austin, Texas – May 17, 2010 – A buzz-worthy new awareness campaign coming to Austin May 21-22 will encourage open communication -- doctor to patient and partner to partner -- about the complicated, often emotional issue of infertility. At the same time, Texas Fertility Center (TFC), the first private Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility practice in Austin, introduces its “Beyond the Birds and Bees” radio show on Talk 1370 Saturdays, noon to 1 pm beginning May 15th. This program will feature the doctors of TFC; Thomas Vaughn, Kaylen Silverberg, Lisa Hansard and Natalie Burger.

Launched earlier this year in Baltimore with www.IncreaseYourChances.org, “The Birds and Bees” campaign raises the awareness of the surprisingly high number of Americans who struggle with getting pregnant: 1 in 8 couples face infertility.

Costumed birds and bees will hit Austin’s hotspots this month, mingling with couples to educate them about how to increase their chances of conceiving*.

“When we are taught about the birds and the bees, no one ever mentions that sometimes couples just can’t conceive on their own,” says TFC partner Dr. Thomas Vaughn. “It’s important to know the facts about fertility issues and the benefits of working with a fertility specialist.”

Both the national public awareness campaign and TFC’s “Beyond the Birds and Bees” radio program focus on de-stigmatizing infertility. TFC’s radio program titles include The Amateur’s Guide to Getting Pregnant, Conception Misconceptions and What to Expect When You’re NOT Expecting.

“Fertility is no joke,” added Dr. Vaughn. “A light-hearted approach to communication, though, can help disseminate information, facilitate conversation and educate couples about the timeline for getting pregnant.”

Statistics show that fertility can decrease with age, so the sooner you see a fertility specialist or reproductive endocrinologist, skilled in pinpointing male and female infertility roadblocks, and advanced treatment options such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or artificial insemination, the sooner a problem may be diagnosed and overcome.
